Alpaca fibre is divided into 12 natural colours. They range from white to black. See table on right side.
Important quality factors for Alpaca-fibre is: Fineness, density, lack of guard hair, crimp, strength, uniform and coverage.
Alpaca-fibre is known for its unique qualities in the clothing industry. The quality is measured in micron, and "baby-alpaca" has a micron less than 20. For comparison, sheep wool is about 30-40 micron. Fibre from Alpaca is about twice as strong as the wool from Merino sheep. The clothes made of Alpaca fibre is very robust, and they don't shrink during laundry. Alpaca fibre doesn't contain lanolin, and is therefore usable for allergic people. The insulation quality is very good due to a column of air inside each fibre (hair). Alpaca fibre is often used by designers, and clothes from Alpaca are exclusive.
